With globalization changing society rapidly, it is a good time to investigate the origins of our high-functioning swamp. In 'The Story of the NL: A Comedy Lecture' Luuk uses history to explain the society we live in today, to help share the feeling of belonging.
Learn how the past formed our culture and society in a meaningful history. From a river delta to the reformation, the republic and the progressive 60s and 70s. Fast-paced and funny, this is 'The Story of the NL'
Comedic Insight
Experience a fresh perspective as Luuk van der Vaart combines storytelling with his extensive experience as a stand-up comedian. Unraveling complex social themes relevant to modern life and sparking laughter
Customization
No organization is the same, so Luuk adjusts the show in length and topics: weed, bikes, the occupation, Calvinism, polarization and Dutch food. Luuk can also create and share the story of your home town
“Never had a more fun "history lesson",
Such a great way to learn more about our new home.”
Celina J. Amaro
Expat in DH
Train your new peers
'The Story of the NL' is the right fit for….
Education
All educational institutions see a growing diversity of their student population. After housing and taxes, we should focus on the questions: What kind of society is this? And, how do I participate?
Business
Attracting new talent is one thing, but keeping them here is another. The more expats learn about our history, the more motivated they will be to participate in the unique local and regional culture.
Municipalities
Expats, guest workers, migrants; recent reports advise we should provide all newcomers basic knowledge about our culture and society. Information leads to more understanding and higher chances of starting a better life here.

Very educational
“Thank you for a fantastic, funny and definitely very educational evening! I’ve been in the NL since 2001, became Dutch in 2014, and many of your stories were incredibly relatable."
Aleksandra Wismeijer, Employee Experience Expert @ ING NL
